Rockies Lodging Capital (“RLC”), formed in 2014 by hotel industry veterans, Stephen Mills and Phillip Hutchins, concentrates primarily on mid-market and upscale limited service hotels. The team’s focused experience in lodging helps them identify opportunities to increase the value of acquisitions through targeted operational enhancements and capital projects. RLC’s strategy is to maximize asset value and cash flow through intensive asset management.
Phillip has over 20 years of hotel experience including asset management, acquisitions and development underwriting, feasibility and appraisal studies, and brokerage. Phillip has asset-managed a diverse hotel portfolio valued at over $700 million and acquired more than $500 million in hotel assets.
Phillip created Elevation Hospitality Group in 2013 to provide asset management, consulting and advisory services to the hospitality industry. Previously, he spent twelve years with Amstar, a private equity real estate firm, where he was responsible for the asset management of its hotel investments. Prior to that, Phillip held a variety of positions with Hostmark Hospitality Group, HWS Real Estate Group, Promus Hotel Corporation, Hotel Partners, and HVS International.
Phillip graduated from the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University with a major in Hospitality Business. He is a member of the Hospitality Asset Managers Association and The School of Hospitality Business Real Estate & Development Advisory Council.
Stephen has over 20 years of experience in the lodging space including asset management, acquisitions and development underwriting, feasibility studies and transactions. Co-Founder of two very successful boutique hotel advisory companies, NAI Global Hotels and Paramount Lodging Advisors.
The Mills family has over 40 years individual experience and 80 years combined experience in the operations and ownership of lodging properties. Included are ground up development, redevelopment, brand repositioning, operations repositioning resulting in a wide range of experiences in operations from luxury Four Seasons Hotels to highly successful limited service hotels.
Stephen has been involved in dozens of lodging transactions in his career ranging from smaller independent properties valued from approximately $5 million to individual transactions of approximately $100 million. The aggregate value of transactions completed by his companies exceeds $4 billion.
Stephen graduated from the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
